The Flight Instructor/Supervisor of Flying at Lakeland is supports the aviation program at Lakeland University. Responsibilities of this full-time staff position include providing flight and ground instruction in accordance with LU and FAA regulations and procedures, as well as preparing schedules, maintaining records, and ensuring that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by each student in each flight course. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with flight instruction for students of various experience and ability levels from private through commercial, a commitment to safety, ability to identify and communicate areas for program improvement, and ability to work effectively with the Chief Flight Instructor on all aspects of assigned duties.

  • Deliver on-aircraft instruction and provide on-ground tutorial as directed by the Chief Flight Instructor;
  • Utilize Lakeland's ETA software to ensure accurate record-keeping for maintenance and billing purposes;
  • Utilize Lakeland's facilities and equipment in compliance with FAA, LU and Higher Learning Commission standards;
  • Collaborate with the Chief Flight Instructor as requested for program review and academic progress reports;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.



Candidate must:

  • Hold an FAA unrestricted commercial pilot certificate or ATP with airplane category rating and single-engine land class rating. Additional airplane multi-engine land rating preferred.
  • Hold a Flight Instructor certificate with airplane single-engine land and instrument airplane ratings. Additional airplane multi-engine instructor rating preferred.
  • Hold at least a current 2nd class FAA medical certificate.
  • Have at least 200 total flying hours in airplanes.
  • Be able to perform and teach all flight maneuvers and procedures required by the private, instrument, and commercial pilot airplane ACS to the appropriate standards.
  • Have knowledge of and ability to apply effective instructional technique on ground and in flight.
  • Have knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations (141 experience preferred).
  • Have ability to work well under pressure in fast-paced and noisy environment while exercising sound judgment at all times.

  • Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment, in airplane hangar, and in flight lessons. Some risk is part of the position.
  • Should be able to work some evenings and/or weekend hours as required
