The Director of Counseling must be a caring, organized, diligent and thorough individual, who is aware of and able to assist students in navigating the cultural and academic challenges of higher education. The Director must learn and apply the University's mission and values and best practices in mental health counseling in providing services and programs to students on our main campus.

The Director of Counseling is responsible for every aspect of the program including:

  • Individual counseling, crisis intervention, designing and implementing issue-based workshops, and providing staff, faculty and student training.
  • Working with the Associate Provost for Student Development in the implementation of the Aurora Grant and those positions associated with the grant.


  • Working with members of the Student Development and Admissions teams to provide effective programming to students and/or families at admissions and orientation events events.


  • Serving on the Lakeland Intervention Team and ensuring best practices in mental health counseling are included in plans to engage students in wellness efforts.





  • Must be licensed professional counselor in the state of Wisconsin
  • Must possess a master's degree in appropriate field; doctoral degree preferred.
  • Direct clinical counseling experience working with a diverse college-age population is required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills is required
  • Previous University counseling center experience preferred
  • Seeking a team-oriented generalist, who demonstrates strong and effective clinical skills to address the mental health needs of Lakeland University students as well as strong knowledge of issues facing college age students, both traditional and non-traditional.
  • Demonstrated experience counseling and programming on academic concerns, adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse, learning challenges and other issues pertinent to a university student population are highly desired.



  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk;
  • No or very limited physical effort required;
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
